EU, Georgia Sign ENP Action Plan
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 3 Oct.'06 / 11:51

The visiting delegation of the European Union Troika and Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili signed a joint statement on the agreed text of the Georgia-European Union Action Plan within the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) on October 2.

The Action Plan will be formally approved at the EU-Georgia Cooperation Council session planned for November 14 in Brussels.

The EU Troika delegation, including Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja and German Deputy Foreign Minister of State Günter Gloser, held talks with the Georgian President, Prime Minister, Parliamentary Chairperson and Foreign Minister in Tbilisi.

They discussed the issues of implementing the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and the European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plan between the European Union and Georgia.

“The European Union and Georgia are determined to make use of this occasion to enhance their relations and to promote prosperity, stability, and security.  In this respect the two sides confirm the importance of cooperation for the peaceful solution of internal conflicts in Georgia and for the enhancement of economic and trade links, including exploring the feasibility of a possible future free trade agreement,” a joint statement reads.
