Russian Ambassador to Georgia Vladimir Chkhikvishvili denied on December 28 that Russia uses gas price as a mean for political pressure on Georgia.

“Gas has never been used as a tool of political pressure [on Georgia] for past ten years. This is not our policy,” the Russian diplomat said.

He was speaking at a joint news conference with chief executive of the Gazexport company Davit Morchiladze in Tbilisi. Gazexport is the Russian Gazprom’s subsidiary company which delivers gas to Georgia.

Davit Morchiladze confirmed that an agreement has already been reached on delivery of 2,5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2006 at the price USD110 per 1000 cubic meter instead of current USD 63.
