The Georgian authorities were able to import an additional 310 tons of kerosene fuel to fill the deficit created after demand for kerosene increased in the wake of a blackout caused by damage to a high-voltage power line in western Georgia, Chief of the President’s Administration Giorgi Arveladze said on January 26.

“110 tons of kerosene will be sold below the market price and will cost only GEL 0.6 [about 33 cents]… the remaining 200 tons will cost the market price – GEL 1.4 [USD 0.77],” Arveladze said.

He also said that residents of Tbilisi will be able to purchase “cheap fuel” at several stations in the city.

Among these stations Arveladze named the Russian LukOil company as a participant in this initiative.

Arveladze also said that the Financial Police are monitoring the fuel market to prevent an increase in the fuel price.
