Russia May Restore Gas Supply by Saturday

Russia will probably restart the gas supply to Georgia on January 28, the Interfax news agency reported on Friday quoting Vasily Zinoviev, a top executive from the KavkazTransGaz gas transportation company.

“We are moving to the final stage of the restoration works,” Zinoviev said.

“On Friday the workers will start assembling the damaged section of the main gas pipeline,” Zinoviev added.

Gas from Russia will only reach consumers several days after the supply is restored.

Gas pipelines in Russia’s North Ossetian Republic were blown up on January 22, cutting the gas supply to Georgia.
