Speaking via phone from Vilnius, Lithuania MP Valery Gelashvili of the opposition Republican Party told Imedi television on March 21 that he suspects MP from ruling National Movement party Bidzina Bregadze and Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava of masterminding an attack against him last July.

“I suspect that Ugulava, who by-then was the chief of President’s Administration and Bidzina Bregadze, who by-then was deputy of [Interior Minister Vano] Merabishvili organized attack against me,” MP Gelashvili said.

Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava was the first among those officials who alleged MP Gelashvili’s construction firm of being behind the fire, which destroyed one of the schools in Tbilisi on March 18. Later MP Bidzina Bregadze said that Valery Gelashvili is “a bandit and there is no place for bandits like him in the Georgian Parliament.”

“He is insane. I think not only the law enforcers should be interested with this person, but doctors as well,” Gigi Ugulava said on March 21 in a response to MP Gelashvili’s allegations.

MP Gelashvili left for Vilnius on March 19, where he lived before 1997 and where he reportedly maintains part of his business.
