Police arrested five activists from the Equality Institute non-governmental organization on June 7 after they staged a protest on Rustaveli Avenue outside the Parliament demanding a fair investigation into the Sandro Girgvliani murder case.

The Patrol Police arrested civil activists after they layed down on the road in an attempt to block the avenue in downtown Tbilisi.

The Equality Institute activists have staged a series of protest rallies in Tbilisi against police violence over recent months.

The detained activists face a fine for public disorder.
