MP Quits Ruling Party
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 15 Jun.'06 / 18:26

MP Badri Nanetashvili announced on June 15 that he will quit the ruling National Movement party after being accused of engaging in the management of the local television station Trialeti in the Shida Kartli region.

The Parliamentary Committee for Procedural Issues is now probing into these allegations. If the probe confirms these allegations the Parliament will strip Nanetashvili of his MP credentials.

MP Nanetashvili accused influential parliamentarian from the National Movement party Giga Bokeria of mounting pressure on him and demanding that he quit the Parliament. MP Nanetashvili also accused Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili of threatening him to sell his shares of Trialeti TV. MP Bokeria has strongly denied these allegations.
