The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has shortlisted Sochi, Salzburg and PyeongChang as the candidate cities for the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 leaving Borjomi out of the race.

Jaca (Spain), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Sofia (Bulgaria) have also been competing for hosting the Winter Olympic Games.

All seven candidates have gone through the first phase, which consisted of a detailed assessment by an IOC Working Group of each city’s ability to organise the Winter Games.

Georgia applied to host the games in June, 2005. “I am confident that we will win this bid,” said President of the Georgian Olympic Committee Badri Patarkatsishvili after making an official bid last year.
