Oleg Gabodze has appealed the breakaway South Ossetia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) for registration as a presidential candidate in the November 12 polls in the unrecognized republic, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee (PIC) reported on September 29.

According to the PIC, Gabodze is a “South Ossetian citizen; unemployed” and his candidacy was nominated by “an initiative group.” No other details about him are reported.

South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity has already announced his intention to run in the polls.

Head of the Tbilisi-based Georgian-Ossetian Union “Iber-Ironi” Maia Chigoeva-Tsaboshvili has also said she will enter the race.

But the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on September 30 that only two candidates – Kokoity and Gabodze – have so far appealed the CEC for registration as candidates.
