The Moscow Municipality has donated humanitarian aid worth 20 million Russian rubles (approximately USD 741 000) to breakaway South Ossetia, Itar-Tass and RIA Novosti news agencies reported on October 14.

“This humanitarian aid is a symbol of Russian assistance to South Ossetia, which wants to live independently and not to obey those who have subjected these people to genocide,” Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said before the aid package departed by train from Moscow.

South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity, who is currently visiting Moscow, also attended the ceremony.

Reports say that humanitarian aid includes medical equipment, textbooks and equipment for schools, as well as road infrastructure equipment.
