Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 1 Jan.'07 / 12:45

In his New Year message President Saakashvili said that 2006 was the year of fight between “liberty and tyranny for Georgia” and 2007 will be the year of “serious challenges” and it should turn into the year of “huge success” for the country.

“There have been attempts in 2006 to split Georgian society, but your [the Georgian population’s] response was unprecedented unity and solidarity… Last year we proved that under increasing pressure we become even stronger… For me Georgia is Saint George as a symbol of good defeating evil,” President Saakashvili said.
