Shamba: Sokhumi to Focus on Kodori in Georgian-Abkhaz Talks
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 2 Feb.'07 / 16:57

The Abkhaz side will insist on “full demilitarization” of the Tbilisi-controlled Upper Kodori Gorge during the UN-sponsored Georgian-Abkhaz talks in Geneva, which are scheduled for February 12-13, Abkhaz Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba said.

“I suppose that the major controversy will arise around the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution by Georgia, which demands the demilitarization of the Kodori Gorge. We will insist on fulfillment of this provision by Georgia,” Shamba said in comments posted on the Abkhaz leader’s official web-site on February 1.

The negotiations will be attended by representatives of the UN Secretary General's Group of Friends on Georgia, involving diplomats from Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia and the United States.
