Executives from Dubai World are visiting Georgia’s Black Sea port of Poti for a fact-finding mission to study the enterprise’s capacities and the possibility of turning the area into a free trade zone.

The visit comes less than two weeks after a Georgian delegation led by President Saakashvili traveled to the United Arab Emirates on February 15-17.

Dubai World is a conglomerate of companies that manages and supervises portfolios for businesses and projects of the Dubai government. Its portfolio includes Dubai Ports World, which is the third largest port operator in the world, and companies operating five free zones in Dubai.

“It is early to speak about details of the project or a detailed investment plan the company will carry out in Poti; but we can say now that it will be worth of hundreds of millions of US dollars,” Jemal Inaishvili, Vice-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and President of the Georgian Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said on February 27.
