Interior Minister Says he will not Resign
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 17 Mar.'07 / 17:45

Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said on March 16 that he does not yet plan to resign, amid calls from the opposition.

“I still have whole range of task to implement; I will go for rest after all of them are done,” Merabishvili said in an interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

Merabishvili became one of the major targets of opposition parties’ criticisms in the President Saakashvili’s administration because of high-profile murder cases of Sandro Girgvliani  and Amiran Robakidze. He is accused by the opponents of covering up several ex-Interior Ministry officials who have allegedly been somehow involved to these murder cases. Opposition demands in vain Merabishvili’s resignation since early 2006.
