A new 200 Lari denomination banknote depicting Georgia’s national hero, Kakutsa Cholokashvili, who led an uprising against the Bolshevik Red Army in the 1920s, has been issued. The reverse side of the new banknote features an image of the breakaway Abkhaz capital of Sokhumi. It also features the words “Sokhumi, Abkhazia” in three languages – Abkhazian, English and Georgian. “This [new banknote] is a symbol of the country’s freedom and territorial integrity,” Roman Gotsiridze, President of the National Bank of Georgia, said at the presentation of the new banknote on March 31. |
