Georgian Defense Minister Davit Kezerashvili, who has been visiting Iraq since April 27, has held talks with his Iraqi counterpart and inspected areas where Georgian peacekeeping troops are deployed.

According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, Kezerashvili also visited the district of Al-Kut, where an additional Georgian contingent will be deployed by June.

Currently, Georgia has about 850 of its elite troops in Iraq and is, on a per capita basis, one of the most significant contributors to the coalition forces.

The country plans to increase its military presence in Iraq to 2,000 troops.
