UNOMIG: Probe into Abkhaz Clash Still in Progress
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 24 Sep.'07 / 14:55

A probe into the September 20 clash is continuing, Civil.Ge has learnt from the UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG).

Earlier on Monday, RIA Novosti news agency quoted the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in the Abkhaz conflict zone as saying that a joint probe by Russian peacekeepers, UN observers and both the Georgian and the Abkhaz sides, had been completed and concluded that the clash, which left two Abkhaz dead, was carried out in Abkhaz-controlled territory.

UNOMIG, however, contradicted the commander, saying that the “fact-finding into the 20 September incident, including its location, is still in progress.”

A quadripartite Joint Fact-Finding Group (JFFG) was convened to look into the reported clash. The group is led by UNOMIG.
