Ex-Foreign Minister to Become Chief of Intelligence
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 31 Jan.'08 / 11:08

Gela Bezhuashvili, ex-foreign minister, will be appointed head of the intelligence service, lawmakers from the ruling party have confirmed.

The proposed appointment comes as a surprise, given PM-nominee Lado Gurgenidze's earlier announcement that Bezhuashvili had decided to quit public life in favour of the private sector.

The intelligence department – which is directly subordinated to the president - was previously led by Anna Zhvania.
