Senior MP does not Rule Out Use of Force to Restore Territorial Integrity

“We will continue very active and very vigorous attempt to restore our territorial integrity as soon as possible, through diplomatic means, but if these means are not enough, we will manage to do it with the help of our armed forces,” MP Givi Targamadze a lawmaker from the ruling party said while speaking in a late-night political talk-show, Primetime, aired by Rustavi 2 TV on March 17.

Targamadze who chairs parliamentary committee for defense and security also said that along with settlement of the territorial integrity problems, Tbilisi will continue “a vigorous attempt” to achieve NATO Membership Action Plan. “Just this is what President Saakashvili is doing now,” Targamadze said.

President Saakashvili, who is currently visiting the United States, is due to meet with President Bush and other officials.
