The Georgian Ministry of Defense has denied Abkhaz reports that a Georgian reconnaissance plane had been shot down.

“I can say that not a single Georgian aircraft has been downed,” Nana Intskirveli, a spokesperson for the Georgian Defense Ministry, told Civil.Ge.

She confirmed that the Georgian armed forces “have that type of airplane” – an unmanned reconnaissance plane.

Stanislav Lakoba, secretary of the Abkhaz National Security Council, told Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress that a reconnaissance aircraft had been shot down at noon on March 18 over an administrative border between the districts of Gali and Ochamchire, near the village of Primorksoe. He said that a search for the debris of the aircraft, which fell into the sea, was underway.
