The OSCE Permanent Council will convene a special meeting in Vienna on April 30 to discuss the downing of an unmanned Georgian reconnaissance drone.

Heikki Talvitie, the Special Envoy of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, visited Tbilisi and discussed the matter with the Georgian leadership. “I have had constructive discussions with the Georgian Government and will brief the OSCE Chairman-in-Office,” Talvitie said on April 29.

Georgia claims a Russian MIG-29 downed one of its drones over Abkhazia on April 20. Russia denies the allegation and claims it was shot down by the Abkhaz air force. Georgia showed video footage transmitted from the drone’s on-board camera, which Tbilisi claims, is incontrovertible evidence, but Russia said the footage was fabricated.
