Authorities in breakaway Abkhazia have claimed they shot down another Georgian unmanned reconnaissance drone on May 8.

The Georgian Interior Ministry, however, has strongly denied that. “That is lie,” Shota Utiashvili, the Interior Ministry spokesman told Civil.Ge. The report was also denied by President Saakashvili, who, according to Interfax news agency, said at a meeting with a group of visiting Russian journalists in Batumi on May 8, “nothing has been shot down.”

The Abkhaz side has claimed downing of total of five Georgian drones in recent two months. Tbilisi has confirmed downing of only one on April 20.

Gari Kupalba, the deputy defense minister of breakaway Abkhazia, has claimed that the Georgian drone was shot down over the Ochamchire district at 5:10pm local time on May 8 by the Abkhaz anti-aircraft system.
