Six people, including a Russian tourist, were lightly injured as a result of two explosions in the Abkhaz capital Sokhumi on June 30, Interfax news agency reported quoting Abkhaz officials.

“Injures are not life-threatening,” Alisa Bigvava, chief prosecutor of Sokhumi, told the Russian news agency.

Two explosives went off close to the Sokhumi’s market by the noon.

RIA Novosti news agency reported quoting the Abkhaz law enforcement officers that the explosive devices did not contain shrapnel-generating objects.

“It seems that terrorizing the population and thwarting tourism season were the aim of the blasts,” Vladimir Gaidukov, the deputy interior minister of breakaway Abkhazia, told RIA Novosti.

Similar two explosions occurred on June 29 in Gagra, the Abkhaz town close to Russian border, which is a tourist area for mostly Russian visitors. Six people were lightly injured as a result of those two explosions in Gagra.

Sergey Bagapsh, the Abkhaz leader, blamed the Georgian side for both of these incidents and told RIA Novosti news agency that the Abkhaz side would close down border with Georgia starting from July 1.

Tbilisi has strongly denied having links to those blasts in Abkhazia. Officials in Tbilisi suggested that the blasts were a result of a power struggle among various Abkhaz criminal groups.
