Opposition Leader: No Time for Internal Confrontation
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 8 Aug.'08 / 13:21

Davit Gamkrelidze, the leader of the opposition New Rights Party, has announced “a moratorium on confrontation” with the authorities amid armed clashes in breakaway South Ossetia.

“The situation is very difficult in the country. I think that there is no time for internal political disputes,” Gamkrelidze said at a press conference on August 8. “Under such conditions - it is an unwritten law – internal political confrontations and disputes should be stopped.”

“Hence, on behalf of the New Rights Party, I want to announce a moratorium on confrontation with the authorities, and I call on all political parties, all opposition forces, to do the same. I hope that hostilities [in South Ossetia] will end soon and afterwards we will have a chance to analyze the situation.”
