Russia Confirms its Two Jets Downed

Russian Ministry of Defense said that two of its warplanes – SU-25 and TU-22 – were downed over the South Ossetian conflict zone, the Russian media sources reported.

Faith of pilots is not yet clear, a representative of the Russian general staff of the armed forces, said.

Georgia said four warplanes were downed on August 9, bringing total number of downed Russian jets to 10.

Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia, Alexandre Lomaia, said “a corpse of one pilot was found.”

And President Saakashvili said at the session of the National Security Council that another pilot was captured.

“This is the first case in many years when Russians have acknowledged that they are bombing us,” Saakashvili said referring to the Russian MoD’s confirmation of downing of Russian warplanes.

The secretary of the National Security Council said that the Georgian forces had also destroyed ten Russian armored vehicle and tanks in clashes in South Ossetia.
