• Bush called for returning to August 6 status-quo;
• Medvedev said Georgia should pull out troops from S.Ossetia;
• Saakashvili called for ceasefire and talks.

Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, outlined terms for ceasefire in a phone conversation with the U.S. President George W. Bush on August 9, the Kremlin said.

Medvedev said that withdrawal of the Georgian forces from the South Ossetian conflict zone was the only solution to the current crisis and also added that Tbilisi should sign a binding treaty on non-use of force, according to the Kremlin.

He also said that there were thousands of casualties and widespread destructions as a result of Georgia’s “barbaric actions.”

President Bush reiterated in a statement that the United States took the situation in Georgia “very seriously.”
 
“We call for an end to Russian bombings and return by the parties to the status quo of August the 6th,” Bush said.

Restoring the August 6 status-quo means withdrawal of all additional forces and military hardware of both Georgia and Russia from the region.

President Bush talked to President Saakashvili as well on August 9.

The Georgian President said Tbilisi was ready to demilitarize the region if Russia withdrew its troops from South Ossetia.
