Estonia gives Georgia complementary humanitarian aid to help the refugees

Considering the high number of internally displaced persons and bad humanitarian situation Ministry of Foreign affairs intends to send Georgia complementary humanitarian aid.

Estonia follows carefully humanitarian situation in Georgia and together with other donors gives proper aid to relieve the situation. According to Foreign Minister Urmas Paet a lot of attention must be paid to resolving the humanitarian situation. "At present the estimated number of refugees in Georgia is 100,000 and to help them we need to act now," Paet explained.

According to Foreign Minister it is very important that international humanitarian aid reaches the people who need it. For that it is essential to guarantee international help organization's access to distressed regions. Georgia has requested medical devices, tents, sleeping-bags and bags primarily to relieve the situation of inland refugees.

Estonia sent Georgia 5.5 tons of humanitarian aid on 12 August, including bandages, antibiotics, infusion dilutions, lightweight beds, blankets, thermo-sheets and other medical equipment needed for rescuing people.
