U.S. Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham arrived in Tbilisi on August 20 to hold talks with the country’s leadership.

Senator Lieberman, an independent and close friend of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, said: “This is a moment in history when it is vital for the world’s democracies to stand in solidarity [with Georgia].”

Lindsey Graham, a Republican Senator, said: “I believe it is in our own national security interests to stop Russia from continuing its aggressive actions against Georgia.”

The visit comes just couple of days after the visit of Joe Biden, a Democratic Senator, who chairs the Senate foreign relations committee, on August 18.

“I left the country convinced that Russia's invasion of Georgia may be the one of the most significant event to occur in Europe since the end of communism,” he said.
