A group of Georgian politicians, including Davit Bakradze, the parliamentary chairman; Nino Burjanadze, a former parliamentary chairperson; Davit Usupashvili, leader of the opposition Republican Party; and Giorgi Baramidze, the state minister for Euro-Atlantic integration, met in Denver with Senator Joe Biden, Democratic vice presidential candidate, on August 28.

Georgian television station Rustavi 2 aired footage of the meeting and reported that Russian aggression against Georgia was discussed during the meeting.

The Foundation for Democracy and Development (FDD), founded by Burjanadze, who is also its president, said in a press release on August 27 that Burjanadze “and other representatives of Georgian political circles” were holding meetings with U.S. and European figures on the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention in Denver and discussing the consequences of the Russian recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Meanwhile, Burjanadze’s allies in Tbilisi say that recent developments will trigger her political comeback soon. “From the very beginning, Ms Burjanadze made it clear that she would return to active politics in the future,” Giorgi Margvelashvili of the FDD told Telegraph.co.uk, the online version of The Daily Telegraph. “The recent crisis has only accelerated her plans to be fully involved in the political process.”
