Georgian Control Reestablished in Village on Abkhaz Border
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 9 Sep.'08 / 18:54

Georgian administration was re-established in the village of Ganmukhuri on the Abkhaz administrative border, about a month after Abkhaz militia, backed by Russian troops, took control over the village.

Ganmukhuri is on the Georgian side of the administrative border and is part of the Zugdidi district. Russian forces with several armored personnel vehicles were stationed in the village until now.

Georgian television footage showed a burnt out youth patriotic camp in the village. Tbilisi has accused the Abkhaz militia of burning the camp, which was opened by the Georgian authorities in 2007. The governor of Samegrelo region told journalists in Ganmukhuri that the Georgian government would rebuild the camp and "arrange an even better beach" there.
