MPs Gia Tortladze and Gia Tsagareishvili from the parliamentary minority have set up a new political party - Democratic Party of Georgia.

Gia Tortladze, who currently chairs the Anti-Crisis Council as well as the parliamentary faction Strong Georgia, will be the chairman of the newly established party. He said that it would be “a right-centrist party.”

“We want to offer the society a new type of a party, which will consist of a political part and a board, comprising of experts of various fields,” MP Tortladze said at a press conference on November 5.

Both, Tortladze and Tsagareishvili were elected in the Parliament on the opposition coalition’s joint ticket; however, they quit the coalition after having rejected to boycott the parliament elected in the May 21 elections.

Gia Tsagareishvili was initially a member of the Industrialist Party, but quit it and together with Tortladze joined the Movement for United Georgia, a party founded by ex-defense minister Irakli Okruashvili last September. Both of them quit the Okruashvili’s party in March, 2008.
