Adjara’s Local Parliament Convened

Newly elected local parliament of Adjara Autonomous Republic – Supreme Council - held its inaugural session on December 2 and re-elected Mikheil Makharadze as its chairman.

The ruling National Movement Party won 15 seats in the 18-member parliament in the elections held in the region on November 3; the Christian-Democratic Party has two seats.

One remaining vacant seat will be filled after by-elections are held in the Adjara’s Khelvachauri single-mandate constituency on December 14.

Most of the opposition parties have boycotted local elections in Adjara.
