President Saakashvili visited Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah emirates of UAE as part of “economic diplomacy,” the President’s press office said on March 1.

“President Saakashvili received guarantees that investments from Emirates will not only stop, but will further increase,” despite the global financial crisis, according to the press release.

It also reads: “Ras Al Khaimah emirate carries out investments in free economic zone in Poti - port of Poti, also develops large trade center in Tbilisi, finances Imedi TV and construction of Mtatsminda park.”

Last week a local unit of Ras Al Khaimah’s investment fund bought 90% of shares of Imedi TV and radio holding. Both Imedi and Mtatsminda amusement park remain disputed assets, as late tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili’s family claim ownership of Imedi and control over the amusement park.

The President’s press office also reported that an agreement has been reached on visa-free travel to UAE for the Georgian citizens.
