The Parliament approved on March 13 two new members of the five-seat Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC). Akaki Sikharulidze was nominated by the parliamentary majority and Irakli Moseshvili – by the parliamentary minority group. Sikharulidze served for the Georgian Agriculture Ministry recently and previously was vice-president of the Federation of Journalists. Moseshvili, who has an extensive experience of working in television stations, including for Imedi TV, was in particular nominated by the Christian-Democratic Party. Two other members of GNCC were also re-elected on March 13 by the Parliament: Sophio Britanchuk, an acting chairperson of the commission and Karlo Kvitashvili. The Parliament passed an amendment to the law in December allowing both the parliamentary majority and minority groups to nominate members for the regulatory commission. An open competition has been announced by the President to fill the fifth vacant seat in GNCC. |
