The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said that fire was opened twice on its policemen close to the South Ossetian administrative border. No one was injured, it said.

In the first incident, it said, the Georgian police checkpoint in the village of Koshka of Gori district at the breakaway region’s administrative border came under fire at about 8pm on May 28 from the village of Disevi on the territory of breakaway South Ossetia.

“During the intensive firing which lasted for three minutes, mortar shells have been applied and other weapons of large-calibre,” the Interior Ministry said and added that the police checkpoint was damaged in the attack.

In a separate incident at 7:30am on May 29, the ministry said, fire was opened to a police pickup patrolling between the villages of Lamiskana and Sakorintlo.

The incidents occurred hours before the Georgian, South Ossetian sides and Russian military commanders on the ground. The meeting, facilitated by OSCE and EU monitors, started in the village of Dvani at the administrative border at 1pm on May 29.
