Senior U.S. Diplomat Visits Georgia

Philip H. Gordon, a new U.S. assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, who visits Georgia as part of his trip to South Caucasus states, will meet President Saakashvili later on June 10, according to the U.S. embassy in Tbilisi.

Meanwhile, he plans to meet with Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze; Defense Minister Davit Sikharulidze; Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze; Secretary of National Security Council Eka Tkeshelashvili and Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili. Meeting with Prime Minister, Nika Gilauri, is also planned.

Gordon will also meet separately with representatives of the parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition.

The U.S. diplomat will meet with board of directors of American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia (AmCham) on June 11.
