Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 24 Jun.'09 / 18:34

Regulations setting procedures for the work of commission on constitutional reform, which was approved by a presidential order on June 23, does not set a deadline when the draft amendments should be tabled.

According to the document, the commission has to endorse final draft of constitutional amendments with two-third of the commission members’ votes; separate chapters and articles will be endorsed by not less than two-third of commission members present at a session.

Nine separate working groups will be set up within the commission to deal with the various fields, including on legislative authorities; presidential institute; executive government; judiciary; as well as with the territorial-administrative arrangements and local self-governance.

Apart of the chairman – Avtandil Demetrashvili, a former chair of the Constitutional Court – the commission will also have a secretary, who will be nominated by Demetrashvili and approved by the commission members.
