Irakli Alasania, leader of Alliance for Georgia, said there was “a growing sense” among the authorities to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the opposition.

“The authorities have a choice. They can either become initiators of democratic changes and become part of the history as contributors to the process of peaceful and democratic changes or they can further strengthen autocratic regime and become tyrants,” he said in an interview with the Georgian daily, Rezonansi, published on July 10.

“Unfortunately, the authorities are still continuing the policy of ignorance, but I know and I have a sense that there is a growing sense among the authorities to change this policy of ignorance with real dialogue.”

“This, however, is not yet observed among the top-level leadership; but such sense persists among mid-level [leadership] and it is very important,” he added.
