The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement that the Russian President’s visit to Tskhinvali was “a cynical attempt to legitimize the puppet regimes established on the Georgian territories occupied by Russia.”

“By such actions, which have no prospects, Russia tries to impose virtual reality on the world, through which it confronts the international community and deepens the abyss with the civilized world, which has been created last August,” the Georgian MFA said. “Medvedev’s visit to the Tskhinvali Region is an obvious challenge of the international community by Russia and one more confirmation that Russia disregards international norms.”

The Georgian MFA’s statement also says that Tbilisi hoped the international community “will spare no efforts” to make Russia implement its commitments undertaken under the six-point ceasefire agreement.

“Only the principled position of the international community… will make it possible to prevent destabilization and escalation of tensions in the occupied territories and in the entire Caucasus region, towards which the Kremlin’s policy is directed,” it said.
