Saakashvili, Biden Hold Offical Talks

President Saakashvili is holding an officail meeting with visiting U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in his residence in Tbilisi on July 23.

President Saakashvili hosted an official dinner in honor of the U.S. Vice President on Wensday evening followed by a concert of Georgian performers, involving mainly Georgian folk songs and dances.

After those events later on Wensday Saakashvili hailed Biden’s remarks made at the officail dinner.

He said Russia’s plans “to have a big war and to take over Tbilisi has been foiled by Biden’s visit.”

He was speaking at an exhibition of photographs from the August war and imagery from the Berlin Wall called “Open Iron Curtain,” — Saakashvili said recently that Russia was now building ‘wall’ to separate Abkhazia and South Ossetia from rest of Georgia “20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall.” 
 
“What we see today in Georgia is a struggle against some remnents old ideology. Actually, we are the nation, which is almost completely free of Soviet misfortunes,” he said.
 
After an offical meeting with Saakasvhili, the U.S. Vice President will meet with parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition leaders, civil society representatives, Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze and diliver a speech in the Parliament.
