During the ninth round of talks in Geneva on January 28, Russian will prioritize the need for non-use of force treaties between Tbilisi and Sokhumi, as well as Tbilisi and Tskhinvali, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

It said that another issue negotiators from Russia would push for was the need “to resolve the problem related with Georgia’s re-armament.”

“Under conditions of continued bellicose rhetoric from Tbilisi, ongoing calls from the Georgian authorities for restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity at any price and build-up of Georgian armed presence and maneuvers in the vicinity of Abkhaz and South Ossetian borders, the issue of granting Sokhumi and Tskhinvali firm security guarantees gains more significance,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said referring to a treaty on non-use of force.

Georgia says that such agreement can only be signed between Tbilisi and Moscow and such a document should envisage de-occupation of Georgia’s two breakaway regions.
 
The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that all “the responsible actors of international relations” should understand consequences that might follow “secret” supplies of weapons and military hardware to Georgia. 
 
It said that “Georgia’s remilitarization and restoration of its offensive military capabilities”, might lead “unpredictable consequences.”

“Accelerated rearmament of the present adventurous regime in Tbilisi will trigger a new wave of tensions and emergence of new threats for neighboring states, and first of all for Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
