Tbilisi City Court found Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, a son of late President Zviad Gamsakhurdia, guilty of murder attempt and illegal possession of firearm and sentenced him to nine years and six months in prison.

Police arrested Gamsakhurdia in October, 2009 on suspicion of shooting and wounding a man after a quarrel on October 27.

Gamsakhurdia denied the charges and his defense lawyer, Keti Bekauri, said the verdict was illegal and she would appeal it to higher court.
