Russian Col. Becomes S.Ossetia Defense Minister

Russian colonel, Valery Yakhnovets, has been appointed as defense minister of breakaway South Ossetia, according to announcement posted on the website of breakaway region’s authorities.

Like his predecessor Yuri Tanaev, the new defense minister is also “an invitee” - as locals in Tskhinvali call those who have been sent from Russia to serve on official posts in South Ossetia.

Valery Yakhnovets served as chief of intelligence of the Russian airborne troops, before recieving new job in the breakaway region.
