The Parliament will discuss and, most probably, pass with its second reading the draft of constitutional amendments by the end of this week.

The draft was passed with the first reading on September 24.

Parliamentary Chairman, Davit Bakradze, said at a session of the parliamentary bureau on September 27 that before the second reading he was ready to hold consultations with the parliamentary minority to discuss possible amendments to the draft.

Justice Minister, Zurab Adeishvili, when presenting the draft to lawmakers during the first reading, laid out those remarks of opponents, which, he said, the authorities were ready to consider during the second reading.

Meanwhile on September 27 a small group of civil society representatives held a protest rally outside the Parliament demanding from lawmakers to suspend parliamentary discussions of the draft and to give more time to public debates on the new constitution. The protest was organized mainly by those, who are members of a group, known as public constitutional commission. The group was established last year, in parallel to the state constitutional commission, mostly by legal experts and civil society representatives critical of the authorities.
