Georgia has prepared visa-free travel agreement with Iran, which may be signed when the Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, visits Tbilisi, Nino Kalandadze, the Georgian deputy foreign minister, said on October 18.

“We are negotiation this issue with Iran; a formal legal document has been developed, which, on our part, has underwent all the internal procedures. There is readiness on our part and we are waiting for a visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister in Georgia, so it will be formalized when the two [Georgian and Iranian] foreign ministers meet and sign this agreement,” she told journalists.

“We hope that the [free-visa travel] agreement will be signed when the [Iranian Foreign Minister] visits Georgia,” Kalandadze said.

According to the Georgian government’s weekly e-publication released on October 14, the Iranian Foreign Minister’s visit to Georgia is scheduled for November 3-4. Nino Kalandadze, however, said on October 18, that the date of the visit was not yet exactly defined.

“As you are aware the visit was planned for number of times in the past, but was postponed for objective reasons,” she said.

Georgian Foreign Minister, Grigol Vashadze, met his Iranian counterpart in New York on sideline of UN General Assembly in September.
