Rally Marks Protest Crackdown Anniversary
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 7 Nov.'10 / 23:47

A small rally outside the Parliament on the evening of November 7 marked a crackdown on anti-governmental demonstrations three years ago, during which hundreds of protesters were injured.

Couple of hundred participants of the rally, involving leaders and activists from several opposition parties and representatives from pro-opposition groups, watched a film, screened outside the Parliament, involving archive footage of the crackdown, when the riot police, using rubber bullets and tear gas broke up protests at several locations in Tbilisi on November 7, 2007.

Also on the same day three years ago, the police raided Imedi TV station, then owned by late tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili, putting the broadcaster off air.

There was no mention of the rally outside the Parliament in Imedi TV's main news bulletin on Sunday.
