Temur Yakobashvili, whom the Parliament approved on November 24 as Georgia’s new ambassador to the United States, said that Georgia's relations with Iran were fully in line with position of the international community.

“Georgia should have balanced and good relations with all of its neighbors and Iran is among them. Our relations with Iran mainly involve economic and cultural aspects; of course there is a political [aspect] as well, but it is fully within the frames, which the international community has towards Iran. There is nothing in our relations [with Iran], that goes beyond that frame,” Yakobashvili told lawmaker on November 24.

“We think that Georgia can be the country where the positions of sides can be brought closer; Iran’s full-fledged membership of the international community is important for us and it will be only good if Georgia can contribute to that,” he added.
