Contrary to all misperceptions caused by “gossip TVs” and “some dirty newspapers”, Georgia is establishing “a good judiciary” enjoying with high public confidence, President Saakashvili said.

“It is more difficult to establish a good judiciary than a good police or a good customs office. Along with experienced people, a lot of young judges were appointed in various level courts. These judges have a full institutional independence… We have never interfered either in any [court] case, or in organizational issues of the court,” he said while visiting Georgian Constitutional Court in Batumi.

“We have young judges, we have all guarantees of institutional independence, they have high salaries, they have legislative independence; they are protected by law against illegal interferences,” Saakashvili said.

He also said that absolute majority of citizens did not have to directly deal with the court and their perception about the judiciary was mainly formed via third party.

“If you cannot see the court yourself, you will have perception about the judiciary only from some gossip TV programs or dirty insinuations of some dirty newspapers,” Saakashvili said.

“The fact that the court enjoys over 60% [confidence rate] is a true sign that the system is being established. This is the best response to those, who do not want to believe in anything. So, progress is really observed in this direction,” he added.
