Sokhumi to Hold 'Modest Presidential Inauguration'
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 5 Sep.'11 / 19:09

Officials in Sokhumi say inauguration of new Abkhaz leader, Alexander Ankvab, on September 26 will be low-key to reflect the somber mood following death of Sergey Bagapsh in May, which promoted early presidential elections in the breakaway region on August 26.

“Alexander Ankvab deems it appropriate to carry out this ceremony modestly without any special celebrations. So unlike previous [inauguration] this time no guests will be invited at the ceremony,” Kristian Bzhania, a spokesman for the breakaway region’s authorities, said.

Abkhaz news agency, Apsnipress, reported on September 5, that lawmakers and members of Abkhaz Supreme Court would attend the ceremony.
