Ankvab Visits Moscow

Nine days after being inaugurated as new Abkhaz leader, Aleksander Ankvab arrived in Moscow for “an official visit” on October 5 to meet with Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev on Thursday, Abkhaz and Russian news agencies reported.

Ankvab was welcomed in Moscow's Vnukovo airport by Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Denisov.

Russian news agencies reported quoting an unnamed Kremlin source, that Medvedev would discuss issues related to providing security to Abkhazia by Russia, which has military and border guard forces in the region, as well as “problems” related to restoration of property rights of Russian citizens in Abkhazia.
